*There's a video feed, but all it shows is a black headband over the eyes of a heavily shadowed face. The shot was obviously planned to not reveal anything, and the audio feed's warped to conceal her true voice.*

It's funny, isn't it?

How there's this huge category in the D-Comm marked "Hostiles" amidst all the other social groupings around this place.

Almost like people would want to hide what they were writing from them. As if they could hide anything that we really wanted to know.

Pardon my filtering my identity out. You can call me the Woolen Spider of Malcanthet for the moment. It represents me better than my real name, anyways.

Now, who might be interested in a little help? Say, dealing with some of the deluded types who call themselves "heroes"? I've also heard some... Interesting rumors about Tetha. I must admit, all these people aligning against them, I'd love to subvert a few key ones, if pointed the right way.

I am willing to organize a choice meeting within as little of five minutes of a request, at your wish.

... Aligning AGAINST them?

You just hold on ONE MINUTE!

Nobody is lining up against US! We've already set our sights on each and every one of those pathetic chumps!

... Or so Ravemon likes to think, anyway. Too many wildcards, not enough proactive elimination.

I guess a whole world IS harder to subvert than a kingdom and its surrounding provinces... and it's not like there's any universe-unlocking items of power out there for easy swiping...

Sub-par wording on my part. But DATS is certainly looking paranoid.

Still, if it's proactive elimination you want, I might be able to assist. Then again, in the right context, I might be capable of... "Realigning" some people.

You don't want brainwashing, not before a big war. Too complex, not enough payoff. You can ruin two or three fights, then the heroes wise up, and the revelation adds a bit of angst to the story. Nothing more.

Now, if you can get the big boss sorts, THEN it's worthwhile. You can ruin the whole thing in one fell swoop.

But that's only good setup material for a subsequent chapter, only if you're sure there's gonna be one. Otherwise, it's a waste of valuable resources.

Now, going after a few people, that might be worth it. Might even be worth a bounty, if you can hit a good, plot-relevant target. Of course, the challenge in THAT is finding one. War's never got central figures on the good guys' side, except a couple of the better generals...

From: [identity profile] blackestwool.livejournal.com
Oh, you underestimate me. "Brainwashing" is entirely not my method. As useful as a boot-licking pet can be, I've got too many more typical pets to take care of.

Baaa.

... I told you to be quiet!

Pet? Minion? Both? There is a shortage of people with good minions.

Anyway, what is your method? You've got my interest.

From: [identity profile] blackestwool.livejournal.com
Both. And I do have several more, though Keisawa here is the best when he keeps quiet during important calls.

Oof!

All you have to do is, with just the right tool, lay bare their ideals, and show what their own heroes are really like. I have yet to meet any who can withstand the truth enough to not abandon their pathetic ideals.

Hmmm, good on the naive ones, and the high and mighty ones.

Not so good on the anti-heroes and the experienced sorts. How long have you been playing for the winning team?

From: [identity profile] blackestwool.livejournal.com
Naive is all heroes. "Anti-heroes" are simply the sane who happen to be on the other end of the political spectrum.

Without the boring details... The birth of my real identity was seven years ago, and I have served my Kage for my entire time as a kunoichi.

Just how old ARE you, Kunoichi?

There's this one fellow named SNAKEMAN, actually. But I ended up sticking him in a pit and making him teach me his Jutsu.

I am a teenager by this place's standards... But so are most of the most powerful ninja in my world, so...

Date: 2010-07-10 06:56 am (UTC)

... So, this SNAKEMAN. He a hero? Or just some schmuck?

Ex-rival to a heroic type known as Billy. Only encountered that twit once, sent him packing. Still can't figure out how he wore THREE eyepatches and still fought, though...

There's plenty of heroes I've faced. Besides Billy, all either died, or ended up being good friends after my treatment.

Date: 2010-07-10 07:09 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lvl9finalboss.livejournal.com
BAH! That explains far too much.

Either that, or you're still coming into things. Not even a true antagonist?

Hmmm, maybe not. Maybe you just haven't had the right hero come along.

Listen here, a good villain needs good rivals. You push around the pawns like they're nothing, and you're just the lord of nothing! A rival makes you grow, makes you better, more evil, more appreciative of the finer things in life and how you take them!

I'm all for the black and white interpretation of things, makes it nice and easy in fact, but an antagonist has to have some conflict of their own, or they're just mid-boss material!

Date: 2010-07-10 07:16 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] blackestwool.livejournal.com
Perhaps I am not an ideal 'lead' villain by your standards. I am, after all, only a servant of a Kage, if an elite one.

And I view allowing rivals to develop as entirely impractical. Why not eliminate them in the first place?

Date: 2010-07-10 07:22 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lvl9finalboss.livejournal.com
Hmmm, good point. Definite mid-boss material... Useful, if somewhat limited in scope. Minus the fanfic. Of course, you usually have to share it with the ensemble darkhorse... freaking Geno...

And like I said. A villain without a rival is only defined by those he defeats. If nobody can give you a challenge, then you're either a long-haired pretty-boy destined for destruction at the hands of another pretty-boy, just some thug waiting for a hero to come around and step on along the way to a bigger story hook.

If that's all I am, so be it. But until the time of my defeat comes, I will bring reality to every person I can, one way or another.

If that's all you WANT to be, it can be arranged. Either here in Tetha, or out there in the rest of the world. Neon's especially good for it, there's a lot more open air around there, less plot on the rails. You come here, you're either gonna be an end boss, or a speed bump.

And you don't get to pick, it's just what your abilities make you.

The Hyperion Hotel has plenty of good victims worth pursuing, every day more and more people move in. Just be careful there, too much pushing will get the whole place after you.

DATS Neon's also good, some overlap with the Hyperion. It also helps that they're trying to be the Bastion of law and order in the town. You'll get on the map with them, but they are kinda the fallback victims.

M.A.G.I. isn't that good of a target. It's a soft target, don't get me wrong, but it's not about good or evil with them. They're more a balancing type. Neutral targets don't get any reaction. Still, might be worth it for individual runs... That can be quite rewarding.

Then there's always Junk City... lots of gangs out there, plenty of room for a person to make a mark and gain a few levels, if you're into the whole RPG thing. But it's tough out there. It might eat you alive.

Sir, do you ever worry that the sheer amount of Genre Savvy you wield may one day destroy the fourth wall entirely?

Date: 2010-07-10 05:58 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] blackestwool.livejournal.com
I wouldn't worry so much. I don't like talking about it, but the fourth wall's kind of tenuous in my world anyhow.

Mind, I think Bowser and myself may be of rather different genres, but~

Pretty much, yes.

Ideally, a ninja should never work alone. In my world, a team of three or four is considered ideal, particularly if that team's abilities are well-balanced.

More significantly, I'm tired of waiting for a chance to cause some real trouble here.

Just don't get your hopes too high for any significant amount of work. Other then causing chaos the recent history of the digital world suggests that even joining forces with one another or subverting key heroes to our side temporarily have done little to change the playing field.

...Woolen Spider? What, are you a fucking sheep with 6 legs or something? That isn't threatening at all!

Heeeee, maybe it's a Ram, Ram ram ram!

And what's with that low term. You say "deal with", I rather just kill as hard as I can! Besides, no better way to get rid of something than shoot it full of holes! But if you got the power to help me take out these idiots like the chumps they are, then I'm aaaall ears.

The Wool Spider is a species of spider that produces some of the nastiest webs of all. A perfect cylinder in a pit, it attracts with a pretty hook, then consumes those foolish enough to take the bait. Spiders are kind of a theme of my village, you see.

Killing is one thing... But I rather prefer my choice rehabilitation, given the chance. After all, an enemy turned ally is often the best ally of all.

Bah, that kind of strategy only works if you kill him too. As much as the blowhard he is, if the Earl was here we could be doing both! Kill the shit out of people, have some Akuma made from the remains, boom! Instant army with no chance of betrayal!

I like having people on a leash that EXPLODES them into NOTHING if they cross me or I get bored, thanks~

A perfectly fair request, and one I am planning to work on quickly.

But what leads you to assume I'm a mere human?

I have observed your species enough to tell when I'm dealing with one.

Or one that is... close enough, at least.

"mere" is the word of concern here.

After all, some of us have the blessings of beings far superior to us, that in turn make us far superior to the typical, weak human who has to rely on foolish ideals.

It seems there is someone with true sight into the true affairs of this world after all.

Well then, Woolen Spider of Malcanthet, my name is Dr. Finitevus, and I would much like a meeting with you. I know of quite a few deluded heroes. Those who are corrupt and cannot see it.

Perhaps with our interests, we could work out a sound partnership.
